Mike: What movie did you see?
Amanda: Uh Step Up… Step Up 3… d.
M: So its 3d. Is it also the 3rd Step Up movie?
A: Yeah, it's the third Step Up movie, and it's also in 3-d.
M: That's clever, Step Up 3… d.
A: D. And the d stands for dope.
M: Dope?
A: Yeah… dope, man.
M: Oh, dope… man. Not like…
A: Yeah you gotta talk like that when you're in a crew, man.
M: OK, so what happens in that movie?
A: Some kid goes to NYU, and then stumbles on a dance battle warehouse where people live and party and dance all the time-
M: Wait, they live where they battle?
A: Yeah, they have this warehouse called "the Vault". They live there, they practice there, but it's also like a club? A 24-hour rave party club where people can come and practice their sick moves.
M: Who would want to live inside a 24-hour rave party club? How could you sleep?
A: Well, they're B-FAB.
M: OK…
A: Yeah, Born From A Boombox.
M: Alright.
A: That's how you know you're meant to dance. So he finds the warehouse, and gets invited to join the crew because he's got crazy moves, and then the only way they can save their warehouse is by winning the World Jam Prize.
M: The World Jam Prize.
A: Yes, the prize is One Hundred Thousand Dollars.
M: Do you even get that much for winning "So You Think You Can Dance?"? Who's putting up this hundred grand for a jam prize?
A: I don't even know. Some kind of… jam… company? They don't tell you that part.
M: So is it a dramatic dance battle?
A: Yeah, at first you think that they won't win, like they're really getting beat badly, but then the girl does a sexy dance to show them they can win, and then they get laser shoes that shoot out and light up shirts and get inspired.
M: Cool… where did they get the lasers from?
A: The guy, the guy is at NYU for engineering, and he got taught to make laser shoes.
M: Right, OK. So is there a romance?
A: Yeah, there's two romances. This movie has a bit of everything: dancing, romances, lasers, spying, ninjas, fighting-
M: Wait… ninjas?
A: Dance ninjas. They go up in the roof and sneak attack you in the bathroom.
M: Oh, s**t.
A: Yeah.
M: What was the best part of the movie?
A: During one of the battles the NYU kid rides in and busts a pipe and makes water squirt on the dance battle, and then they have to dance in shooting out water, and that was really cool in 3d, with the water everywhere.
M: It doesn't seem to me that 3d would necessarily add much to a dancing movie. Does it work?
A: Oh yeah, it works. It's like getting punched in the face by awesome dancing.
M: Christ. So is it just like… whirling parts coming at you?
A: Yes. They put the camera right in front of the dancer and he dances right at the camera, punching their arms out.
M: But doesn't that make you want to move back? Like if I'm standing near to somebody that's really Jam Dancing and swinging, I'm gonna go sit by the bar and watch hockey, I don't wanna get flailed-
A: No, that's the point. It makes you want to battle him back. It makes you want to be a good dancer.
M: But you're just sitting there.
A: Yeah, well… it's inspiring.
M: OK, what's the worst part of the movie?
A: Well… dancers don't make very good actors. Plus it doesn't really make sense.
M: Of course. So what do you give it out of 10?
A: Well, for dancing, an 11. For a movie… 5?
M: Cool. Who's the handsome man in it?
A: I don't know, he's got some good moves, but nobody can compare to Channing Tatum from the first one.
M: It's true, we live in Channing's shadow now I guess.
A: Yeah. And there's a Bieber type as well.
M: Oh brother. How did Dad like it?
A: He talked a lot and it made him feel sick.
M: OK thanks a lot, enjoy the rest of Jersey Shore.
A: OK, bye.
