Hunger Games to Get IMAX Treatment
Coming off the increasingly depressing news about the at-first-temporary-now-perhaps-permanent-closing of Ontario Place Cinesphere theatre - the world's first permanent IMAX theatre, we can take solace as film fans at least that the trend toward releasing IMAX versions of mainstream films continues apace.
![]() It has been just announced that The Hunger Games-arguably the most anticipated film of the spring-will be getting a limited release in IMAX for only one week. Of course, this IMAX release will only be in digital IMAX theatres, which is known to some as LieMAX because it does not utilize the super-large 70mm picture that people associate with the name. A faustian bargain for real film fans presents itself: a bigger & brighter than normal screening, but one that cheapens the name of the venerable, truly giant-framed IMAX format. Would you partake? Find more of Sean Kelly's work on his excellent blog right here, and follow him on twitter by typing in @SKonMovies ! More of his stuff for thesubstream is right over yonder.
