I Love YouTube: Local Market TV Ads

This week's I Love YouTube correspondant: Mark Philp!

YouTube superstars Rhett and Link host the Independent Film Channel program Rhett and Link: Commercial Kings, which is based on their popular web series I Love Local Commercials where the two of them make web-commercials for local businesses who don't necessarily have the resources to do so on their own. Here’s our favourite, which you might have seen bouncing around the internet over the past few weeks:

What’s great about the ads these guys create is that they’re still trying to go for the cheesy, low-budget feel of legitimate local market TV ads. Ridiculous SFX, bad dialogue, low production value... all propped up against a backdrop of earnest salesmanship.

Today, while we do salute Rhett and Link (and you can find a lot of their awesome vids here), we also salute many of our favourite actual local market TV ads... many of them already viral YouTube hits! Enjoy!

Russell Oliver- Rap

A little bird told me (aka a casino attendant at Niagara Fallsview Casino and Resort), that Mr. Oliver was banned and forcibly ejected from the building due to smashing a video screen on a slot machine after losing all of his 'cash' in some kind of tournament. And it makes sense that this would happen after seeing the video.

You've seen this. Even The Cleveland Show did a parody of this one.

Jones' Big Ass Truck Storage

This is personally my favourite, as I feel confident in his abilities to keep my valuables safe. But, seriously. It is a really good business plan. If you got a huge chunk of property, where you are paying next to nothing in property taxes because the lot was a former industrial use and is contaminated beyond any form of reclamation, then why not rent it out as storage at a dirt cheap monthly rate. I like this guys pragmatism.

Martin Fine Furniture

I'd say, 25% of men over 60 are this jovial, and with stats like that, you can't really ridicule this commercial but just be envious because your grandpa isn't this much fun.

The legal realm of claiming personal damages is a completely unknown world to me as I have not been in a serious accident. But if i were, I would hire the most obnoxious, aggressive, 2 am infomercial lawyer I could find.

Everyone had that early childhood friend with a speech impediment who would say things like, "Moy mum boat a Pwince Chawules pwate with Pwincess Diana on it." And you would be like, "Who cares...and why do you speak like that?"
