I Love YouTube: Treadmills
Occasioned by my sprint through Neal Stephenson's new 900+ page MMORPG thriller REAMDE - a book in which multiple characters espouse the value of working and playing on a computer while walking on a treadmill - I went last week to Canadian Tire and bought myself a 2.5 horsepower, 120lb. piece of fitness equipment.
I bought the cheapest model they had, and felt a bit guilty about that during my decision-making process. Was I being too thrifty? Should I instead pick the higher horsepower models endorsed by Lance Armstrong? 2.5 hp doesn't seem like much, after all - my car has got way more horses powering it than that, but it was a good deal and I took it home. I then tried to jog while playing xbox, and very nearly wound up on my ass. I got distracted, and took a wrong step, and came very quickly to the perhaps obvious conclusion that the power of two and a half horses is more than enough to kick me through the drywall of my very small basement. Horses are scary, and pretty god damned strong. So are treadmills:
