I Love YouTube: Washing Machines

I hope, one day, to be visited by whatever muse drives people to have a brilliant thought. I hope to be blessed by that one, perfect idea, sublime in its inexpressible power, that would drive me to complete some creative act, and inspire others to do the same, an inverted pyramid of creation all balancing on a fulcrum as fine as a hair that was a fleeting "what if" that could have been lost forever.

Such a thing happened to a guy who wondered what it would look like to throw a brick into a working washing machine in his backyard:

And now, across the world, people are throwing bricks into washing machines, and watching them dance themselves to death like people trying to win a Buick at a dance-off in 1955:

I love these videos because they're a pure expression of the idiot genius that YouTube generates. A guy has a weird idea: film the murder of a household appliance. He uploads it and inspires a whole bunch of other people-Germans, Australians-to do the same, all around the world, and they upload their results, and now there's a whole washing-machine-murderer community online, that we get to peek into.

And it's not pointless, culturally speaking, either - tell me you didn't feel weirdly sadistic watching these things "die". It's deeply weird, and more than a bit funny of course, but also hard to watch? I love YouTube.
