New Trailer: Honest Abe Hunts Some Vampires
The trailer for horror-comedy Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter has been released and it’s...actually kind of awesome. Check it out:
The movie, based on author Seth Grahame-Smith’s sophomore novel of the same name, features Honest Abe fighting against hordes of vampires immigrating over from Europe as both a Civil War-era president and a vampire hunter with a grudge. From director Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Wanted) and producer Tim Burton with Grahame-Smith co-writing the screenplay, the movie hopes to follow in the success of other absurdist horror comedies like Zombieland (and avoid the fate of, say, Fright Night). And judging by some of those epic fight scenes in the trailer, it might do just that. While Vampire Hunter has a release date of June 22, 2012, the film adaptation of Grahame-Smith’s first novel, the mashup Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, seems to be stuck in production limbo. After losing three directors and Natalie Portman as zombie fighter Elizabeth Bennet, there hasn’t been much talk about future plans for the film — not since screenwriter Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mad Men, Glee, Fright Night) said in a November 2011 interview with Movies.com, “It’s very hard to sell a comedy-horror concept. As much as it’s already pre-sold and popular much in the same way Fright Night was, it’s still a little risky.” Well, if audiences like watching Abraham Lincoln pulverize hordes of vampires, we don’t see why they wouldn’t want to watch a Jane Austen heroine fall in love while massacring some zombies, right?
