Teens 'n' Tweens: Fright Night

As a reward for doing such a good job with her T'n'T blog, last Friday we sent sister Amanda, the tween beat blog queen, to go see the we-heard-it's-good-somehow remake of Fright Night, while we suffered through Conan. Here's what she thought:



thesubstream: What movie did you see?

Amanda: Fright Night 3D! Vampires! So much bloooooood!

tss: Cool! Other than that, what was it about?

A: A bad Vamp dude, and some teenage crusaders, pretty much. Mostly just major blood and guts and explosions. Also some teen virginity losing.

tss: OK. What happens in the movie?

A: We're in some suburb of Vegas (Baby, Vegas) and there’s a spooky neighbour, and missing teen boys. And a former nerd kid Charlie (Chekov from Star Wars) (Anton Yelchin - Ed.) is cool now and has a hot girlfriend. McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is his former bff4l (best friend forever for life - Ed.) and is pissed that he’s hanging with the cool kids and also knows that there are vampire happenings afoot.

Then Charlie is like,"hey neighbour Jerry (Colin Farrell) stop hitting on my mom and maybe you are a vampire". So McLovin-

tss: You have to stop calling him McLovin.

A: Why? He's McLovin.

tss: Because, not only was Superbad his first movie ever, but he was freaking awesome in it, and he shouldn't be rewarded for that by being called "McLovin" his whole life. 

A: Can I call him Nerd Boy?

tss: That's much better.

A: OK so Nerd Boy gets vamp murdered in a pool and now Charlie knows what’s up. 

So he goes to see the guy who played Doctor Who, who is now essentially playing Criss Angel and knows lots of Vamp knowledge and basically lives in a curio museum of Vampire artifacts. He likes to drink Midori. Uhhhh, ok.

Then there’s lots of disgusting exploding blood onto me and exploding houses that are never investigated and really grody almost beheadings. I guess sometimes you just have to kill your exbff that you totally ditched for boobs.

tss: What was the message of the movie?

A: Um- I guess like don’t desert your old nerd middle school friends cause they aren’t cool and have weird videos of you being a ninja in your back yard. Also they know when vampires move next door to you and are just trying to protect you until they try to eat you.

Also, I guess- uhh fight back or something? I dunno- because if I was Charlie I would have just peaced right outta town and not try to be Buffy.

tss: Did anyone in the movie look totally hot and junk?

A: A MAJOR NO!! Ew!! Colin Farrell’s nails almost gave me convulsions. And like he wasn’t shirtless even ever?! He just walked around in really loud murder boots and guh-ross. Charlie was cute in that “dude I kinda liked in 8^th grade” kinda way. But uh yeah, no! His girlfriend was kinda pretty maybe?

tss: What was the best part?

A: Some of the special effects were so freaking coooooool! Idk, there’s a really cool car chase part that was actually really scary and super neat in 3D. 

OH!! And there’s a cool part where all of Jerry’s victims come out of these dirt walls all wanting to eat people and shit and that was SUPER neato.

tss: What was the worst part?

A: I guess just how like, other than all the cool bloody ‘splosion parts it was kind of boring? Maybe it was too long? Or there were no abs or girls in skimpy outfits! It was just mostly alright I guess.

tss: So to normal adults, it sounds great, is what you're saying. Is it good for teens and tweens out there to watch?

A: If you’re a highschool dude tryna take out your hot babe girlfriend then TOTALLY. They will be screaming and covering their eyes and grabbing your arm for like, a long ass time. They will prolly totally make out with you after.
