The DVD/Blu Ray Shed: Dec. 28

If you’re like me and you’ve got essence of turkey oozing out of every pore, then maybe, like me, you should just take it easy this week and not do anything too strenuous. Maybe propping your enormous turkey-filled self up on the couch to watch movies is just what the doctor ordered and if it is then please give me the name of your doctor because it sounds like he/she knows his/her stuff! Anyways, unless you’re some kind of no-holiday-havin’ workin’ stiff you’re knee deep in the lull between Xmas and New Years, which means a lot of sleeping in, a lot of shallow breathing, and a lot of couch-movie time. Here’s some new movies you can add to your dockett, whether it be by way of DVD/Blu Ray or even iTunes store or whatever.

HERE’S THE LAST BATCH OF NEW HOME VIDEO RELEASES FOR 2010:

RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE ( dir. Paul W.S. Anderson)
Herr Anderson returns to the series he helped kick off in order to tell the world that the Resident Evil franchise is capable of making images in 3 dimensions too, ok? Well, here it is in home movie format (spolier: it won’t be anything like wtching it in Imax 3D, the main draw of the film when it hit theatres), and you can either watch it or not watch it. Rest assured, it’s not going to be the last installment of this series, I can practically guarantee it. Wow, a whole paragraph and I haven’t even said if it’s good or not! Doot do doo....

THE AMERICAN ( dir. Anton Corbjin)
With The American, Corbjin seems to be telling the world that he’s serious about making the transition to directing real, actual movies, which is great. The guy has certainly got style, which has helped him achieve great success over his long career as a celebrated rock photographer/album cover designer/music video director. With The American, Corbjin’s slow pacing and deliberate examination of each action and every motive make for a not-as-exciting-as-bourne type of film, but it's worth  watching because of

FUBAR 2 (dir. Michael Dowse)
If you hated Fubar then stop reading NOW. If you’re still reading, then please do yourself a favour and rent/buy/whatever the surprisingly superior Fubar 2! Not that the original was bad, but oh man... this sequel has all the right moves. A smart, non-bloating use of a bigger budget and a somehow even more touching plot than the first film helps to cement these dirtbag characters as actual, endearing 3-dimensional characters. We loved this movie so much when it played at TIFF and we could watch it again and again. Glad it’s finally here on Blu Ray.
