DVD/Blu Ray Shed: February 9th, 2010

Mike takes a trip out back to the DVD/Blu Ray Shed and checks out some of this weeks hot DVD/Blu Ray picks, and by 'hot' we mean 'some of the best' and not 'literally on fire.' Come with Mike on a journey of adventure to a shed with plastic discs stacked in it.

THE PICKS OF THE WEEK FOR THE WEEK THAT HAS FEBRUARY 9th IN IT:

#1. Bronson (dir. Nicholas Winding Refn) - Check out Mike's review here.

Pusher director Refn's biography-cum-art film features one of 2009's best performances. Tom Hardy transforms completely into the explosively violent, unremittingly dangerous and utterly captivating real-life "England's most dangerous prisoner" Charles Bronson. It's weird, violently funny proof that all a film needs is an actor and a camera.

#2. A Serious Man (dir. Joel and Ethan Coen) - Rajo WTI's it here

The Coens return post-the No Country blip to familiar territory: small-budget character pieces that cost $10M, make $20M, are adored by critics and make regular folk go "sh*t it's out of the theatre, I'll catch it on DVD". Well, you know what to do kid, 'cause it's out on DVD.

#3. Endgame (dir. Kris Belman)

Originally broadcast in the UK on Channel 4, Endgame features some pretty talented dudes (namely John Hurt and Chiwetel Ejiofor) pulling a pretty compelling thriller out of the political confusion surrounding the fall of apartheid. I know that because I read it on wikipedia because I haven't seen this movie but I really want to.

#4. The Stepfather (dir. Nelson McCormick)

Another tuesday, another pointless remake of a perfectly fine cult horror film. Rent the original instead (yes, it stars the guy who plays Locke on Lost). Bleaarchhhh.

#5. The Time Traveler's Wife (dir. Jonathan Hyams)

What if your husband had a genetic predisposition to rocketing back and forth uncontrollably in time. That would be crazy and very painful! Now do you want to see a movie about that? Well you can. It's got a great cast and a not very good script unfortunately but if you've always wanted to see a more romantic version of Back to the Future here you go.
