The DVD/Blu Ray Shed: January 18

They're round and shiny, like CDs... CDs? They were big in the '90s. You could get them at Blockbuster... DVDs, not CDs. CDs you could get at HMV, which is where you get DVDs now. If anyone still does that, which is what I was asking.

BEST 'N' WORST OF THE NEW DVDS THIS WEEK

Jack Goes Boating (dir. Philip Seymour Hoffman)

If you can stand the sheer actoriness and part the forest of character hair to find Hoffman's directorial debut (adapted by Robert Glaudini from his original play, which Hoffman starred in in 2007), you'll discover there's a neat enough, snarly kind of romantic weirdo comedy there. Good luck.

Takers (dir. John Luessenhop)

Despite starring a rapper this street-styled heist movie somehow isn't very good which is surprising because who doesn't get excited when they hear the words "featuring the rapper T.I. as an actor in this movie, and he's not playing a rapper either".

Score: A Hockey Musical (dir. Michael McGowan)

A musical about hockey that has no dancing and is aimed at people that don't like hockey. Thanks! This is definitely right up there on the list of things human people want to watch.

Buried (dir. Rodrigo Cortés)

As affecting as a movie starring Ryan Reynolds can be, which is to say surprisingly so. Buried is a nasty little one-hander that only has a couple of stupid little niggly mis-steps to blunt its pretty actually now that I think about it sharp edge. It's good!

The Switch (dirs. Josh Gordon & Will Speck)

Jennifer Aniston is going to be in movies for a long time, isn't she. Because she has voodoo power and chicken bones that she can shake around and if she says magic words these movies like The Switch come out that no one likes.

Death Race 2 (dir. Roel Reiné)

This is probably gonna rule I mean how could it not rule it's got the words "death", "race" and "2" in the title.
