DVD/Blu Ray Shed: June 15, 2010

This week's new releases can be found out back in the DVD/Blu Ray Shed, and Mike has picked his favourites and least favourites. Come join him on the adventure of a lifetime as he tells you what they are.

THE PICKS OF THE WEEK FOR THE WEEK THAT HAS JUNE 15th IN IT:

#1. The Book of Eli (dir. The Hughes Bros.)
Another apocalypse, another preternaturally gifted warrior-poet with a secret on a holy quest across the scarred, blasted sedge while doing battle with a would-be despot who'd do anything to get his hands on a special book. Denzel is OK and Gary Oldman is in fine spittly Oldmanian form but you if you're like me may find your eyes trying to literally roll out of your head because of the stealth proselytization of the whole thing. Cool fights though & a slickish post-apoc look helps smooth rough edges.

#2. When In Rome (dir. Mark Steven Johnson)
Kristin Bell's wasted in a really goofy really rote romantic comedy about magic and coins and romance and Italy etc.

#3. Youth in Revolt (dir. Miguel Arteta)
Go rent this one if you've ever laughed at anything Michael Cera's ever been in. Arteta (Chuck & Buck) has adapted C.D. Payne's cult novel series into an uproariously funny delusional love story that lets Cera work out his very funny (slightly) darker side.
