The Hunger Games: Spoofed by Seltzer & FriedbergBegin rant: You may be familiar with Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg; those sorry excuses for filmmakers that made a “name” for themselves by using their “fame” as “two of the six writers of Scary Movie” to essentially kill off the spoof film genre with their bad "parodies." Basically, they take plagiarized plots and pepper them with topical, distasteful and just plain bad jokes. Seriously, watching their attempts at humour is a special kind of torture - they assume you have been labotomized at some point in your life while being extremely tedious and impossible to follow. Their resume includes films with such original titles as Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, Disaster Movie, and Vampires Suck. EXACTLY. Well, the duo is set to strike again and their latest victim will be The Hunger Games. Apparently the film will be called The Starving Games (how original) and will also be set to spoof The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and Harry Potter (I should also note that IMDB lists ANOTHER upcoming spoof by the duo called The Biggest Movie of All Time 3D). I’ve personally grown quite sick of this duo over the years. They don’t make smart film parodies. They just lift scenes from whatever’s popular at the time and add bad jokes to it. Heck, with Disaster Movie, some of the films they were spoofing (Hancock) weren’t even out yet and they were just spoofing the film’s trailer. It really puts to shame the parody film genre considering that in the past we've seen the likes of Mel Brooks (Spaceballs) and David Zucker (Airplane!) succeed at making films as memorable, classic and smart as the genres they were spoofing. Spoof movies have become so ridiculous, that they have actually made a spoof movie of spoof movies. Check out the trailer below.
