thesubstream BEAT: November 7, 2011

Hey you all, Tara here once again for thesubstream BEAT! November is here which means film festival season is dying down... or is it? To find out, we have launched a brand new section on our site called WHAT'S HAPPENING, which will report on Upcoming Film Festivals and Events (among other things) so you can stay updated on what's going on in the city of Toronto Big Smoke Hogtown and elsewhere. Check that out and bookmark it!

We've got lots of awesomeness coming up for you again this week. Starting with the DVD/Blu Ray Shed! We will be talking about the releases of Harry Potter Part 8- 2, The Fisher King, Atlas Shrugged, The Change Up, Cave of Forgotten Dreams and more. If you're planning on picking up any of these gems, you might want to check with us first to see if it's worth it! That is, if you value our opinion...

For I Love YouTube, we will actually be talking about death metal for reals this week (cue epic guitar solo and hardcore headbanging).

In theaters this week is Immortals, J. Edgar and Melancholia (which we checked out at TIFF and was, in my opinion, was incredible). You'll see some reviews of those and more in 2 Minute Critic and Watch This Instead.

And speaking of Melancholia, we've also got MAMO's Matthew Price with a brand new V.I.D.A.D.I.F.H. show that will be looking at Lars Von Trier - an inspiring filmmaker who happens to be the subject of an upcoming retrospective at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Speaking of inspiring filmmakers, in The Film Lab Mike will show  you how to keep your shots steady if you've got wobbly hands.

Don't forget to tweet us, Facebook us and join the conversations happening on our forum. We love hearing from you!

See you all again next week!

- Tara
