This Week's New Releases and Movie News | thesubstream BEAT: October 9, 2012

Hey everyone! Tara Mason here to give you the inside scoop on what exactly is going to happen this week on thesubstream! Halloween is approaching which means there will be lots of spooky movies coming out. The one I am most excited for is Ethan Hawke's new one Sinister. It looks pretty creepy... let's just hope it actually is. Anyway, here's what you may have missed this past week:

- Liam Neeson in Taken 2 | WTI

- A Good Day to Die Hard Trailer... thank the Lord
- In Theatres: This Week's New Releases
- Coming Soon: This week on thesubstream.com
- In Case You Missed It: Frankenweenie, Taken 2 and The Lone Ranger

Taken 2, Review, WTI, Watch This Instead, Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson in Taken 2 | WTI Ok, so Taken 2 doesn't feature a repeat of the now famous cell phone conversation that Liam Neeson's ex-CIA spook has with his daughter's (and in this case his wife's) captors, but it still manages to be entertaining thanks to Neeson being so completely awesome in this and every other ass-kicky role he's been given over the past decade. That said, it would be nice if he got the chance to really flex his acting muscles once in awhile - he can play other character types, you know...

A Good Day To Die Hard, Bruce Willis, Teaser, Trailer, News, 2012

A Good Day to Die Hard Trailer... thank the Lord Oh new Die Hard trailer, stop. You don’t need to include a motorcycle babe’s boobs, shotguns, cars exploding in a Moscow street like a string of firecrackers, a fantastic, sarcastic one-liner, choral music and that Bruce Willis smirk… you had me at an attack helicopter wasting people with a minigun

This Week's New Releases, In Theatres, Argo, Sinister, Here Comes The Boom, Seven Psychopaths, 2012
Argo (Ben Affleck + Alan Arkin) - Premiering to probably a little bit too much hype at TIFF (Ebert said halfway through the festival that he thought it would win Best Picture eventually), Ben Affleck’s Argo tells the true story of a fake movie, one that was whipped up as a cover to exfiltrate six U.S. diplomats from Tehran in the midst of the 1979 hostage crisis. It’s a thoroughly tense heist flick where the loot is a bunch of would-be Canadians, and Affleck continues his run of absolutely solid genre flicks. Our review will be up on Thursday.

Seven Psychopaths (Sam Rockwell + Colin Farrell + Christopher Walken) - A loose and goofy literary-seeming crime romp from the writer and director of In Bruges, Martin McDonagh, Seven Psychopaths assembles one of the best casts this side of Pulp Fiction. It, like Argo, played at TIFF, and Rajo straight up loved it.

Here Comes the Boom (Kevin James + Salma Hayek) - Unless the whole world is some kind of in-joke that I’m not party to, there is apparently a huge hidden population of people that love Kevin James. He keeps starring in movies, a never-ending barrage of crap like I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Grown-Ups, The Dilemma and Zookeeper—a resume of evil that would make cancer jealous–so unless it’s all a big cosmic joke, there are hundreds of thousands of people out there right now that see his big face in the poster for Here Comes the Boom and think… “Man, I cannot wait to spend money on that”. Do you know any of these people? Have you met one? What happened to them? Were they always this way?

Sinister (Ethan Hawke) - Alert: a not-horrible horror movie is coming out. If pumpkins at the grocery store have you looking for scares but the idea of waiting and then paying for Paranormal Activity 4 has you a little uneasy, then ignore the goofy poster and check out Ethan Hawke in Sinister

Coming Soon: This week on thesubstream.com

Coming Soon Mike will continue his coverage on the cool interview equipment from William F. Whites in The Film Lab. We will also give you all of the details on the new releases including Ben Affleck's Argo, the spooky Sinister starring Ethan Hawke and Here Comes The Boom with Kevin James which you might be seeing in this week's episode of Watch This Instead.

In Case You Missed It, Frankenweenie, Review, Tim Burton, The Lone Ranger, Disney, Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Taken 2, Liam Neeson, 2012
