What's Happening: Toronto Underground Cinema

Hey Toronto-based movie freaks & burgeoning freaks-in-training, have we got a recommendation for you. The Toronto Underground Cinema, formerly a Chinese Kung Fu cinema that then sat empty and forgotten on Spadina for basically forever, has over the past couple of years become one of the most popular rep theatres in Toronto. Our friends Alex Woodside, Charlie Lawton, and Nigel Agnew took over the defunct Chinatown space and have rebranded it, and built it into a thriving rep theatre that focusses mostly on one-off special screenings (if you want last months blockbusters for a buck, look elsewhere. They've stepped their game up in the past year even farther, and featured some events like Toronto After Dark and Toronto Fringe Festival as well as screenings with directors such as Kevin Smith and Edgar Wright. We would like to send them a HUGE congratulations on being named the Best Rep Theatre by NOW Magazine! They are so awesome they even had a FREE (yes I said FREE) screening of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. They also value their fans and supporters so much they even threw a thank you party in their honour.
